The research gives an important overview of the diffusion and use of the e-commerce in Switzerland.Switzerland is at the top of the European rankings for internet diffusion and the share of e-commerce: almost all regular internet users make an online purchase over a 12-month period (90%). It is a mature market with a stable size, there are 4.8m internet users and 4.2m online shoppers in the age range 16-65 years.
An online shopper in Switzerland spends on average approximately 1930 CHF per year (value of e-commerce purchases: 8100 mln CHF). E-commerce purchases are generally made using 3 main models: "online shops, with offline equivalents", "producers' e-stores" and "specialised e-commerce sites, with various offers and brands". The most important considerations when the Swiss shop online or are planning to shop online, are "saving time" and "shopping at any time", highlighting them as having a particularly online shopping profile.
